Mkg reiterates total ban on single-use plastic

Packaged drinking water, plastic cutlery among banned items

Mokokchung, April 1 (MExN): The Mokokchung district administration on Wednesday reiterated the total ban on all single-use plastic as per the State government’s February 11 notification.

Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner (DC) Limawabang Jamir on March 31 reiterated about the total ban on single use plastics for strict implementation in the entire district.

As per the DC’s order, all plastic carry bags, with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size and plastic cutlery including plates, plastic cups, straws, stirrers, etc. are banned from use in the district.

Other single-use items included in the list of banned items are cutlery and other decorative made of Styrofoam (thermocol), polythene, nylon, poly-vinyl -chlorides (PVC), poly-propylene, (non woven poly-propylene carry bags made of thermo plastic polymer), poly-styrene, and packaged drinking water of less than 1 litre.

Any individual, institution/commercial establishment (educational institutions, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, religious institutions, etc) found violating the aforesaid total ban shall be liable for penalties, the DC’s order stated.
