Rural Development Minister, Metsübo Jamir inaugurated the Mokokchung Town Longsa Senso Telongjem (MTLST) ‘Yim ki' at Arkong ward, Mokokchung on December 14. The dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev Supongchiten Pongen, Pastor, Longsa Baptist Church.
Metsubo Jamir in his speech said that the inauguration of such a big building will be a waste if there is no unity among the people. He said that along with the unity among the villagers there should also be unity and co-operation with other community as well.
He also asserted that villagers are now migrating and settling in towns and it becomes inevitable for people to live in cohesion with different tribes and communities. At such a juncture it is important that one should not forget one's own village, language and root.
He hoped that the 'Yim ki' will be a building that will help in fostering unity among the villagers and also urged the union to share it with all those who need it.
He also commented that talks are on for passing of the ‘Uniform Civil Code' in the Parliament and if it so happens, it will destory ‘our religion, our cultural ethos and practises and customary laws.’ He therefore urged everyone to think deeply and voice out against the bill.
Longsa Village Council Chairman, Talichuba, representatives of the Ungma Sekiyangba Semchir, Nungshilepden, former Addl. Development Commissioner, Dr. Temsuwati and Construction Committee Convenor, I Imliyanger Jamir also spoke at the same occasion.
