MOKOKCHUNG , JULY 27 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Abhishek Singh, IAS has in an order today observed that many ILP holders supposedly belonging to the districts of Karimganj, Kachar, Silchar, Hojai etc of Assam have on their own left Mokokchung following the call given by the Ao Students Union (AKM) against illegal migrants from Bangladesh in Mokokchung.
Such an action by the ILP holders and the fact that the above districts are bordering Bangladesh makes it appear that these people could have been suspect illegal migrants from Bangladesh. In view of this, it is ordered that extra precaution must be exercised while renewing or issuing any ILP to any person belonging to the above mentioned districts of Assam. It has been confirmed from Deputy Commissioner, Karimganj, Assam that they are issuing certified copies of electoral rolls bearing photographs of genuine residents of their districts.
In view of this no application for renew or issue of a fresh ILP to any person belonging to these districts of Assam will be processed until and unless it is accompanied by certified copies of electoral rolls with photograph of the applicant, his father and grandfather thereby ensuring that the residence of the concerned applicant is proved beyond doubt for at least 3 generations. It also hereby ordered that no document other than the above, which should be in the format prescribed by Election Commission of India, will be accepted as proof of residence.
All such matters must be approved by the Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung before renew or issue of ILP is done. It is also directed that all ILPs which have been issued to the people of the above mentioned districts in the last one year will be sent to the appropriate authority of Assam for due verification so that legal action can be taken against those who have obtained ILP on the basis of fraudulent documents. This order is also being sent to the Deputy Commissioners of Karimganj, Kachar, Silchar, Hojai, Jorhat and Sibsagar, Assam.
