Extending solidarity with the inauguration of the first medical college in Nagaland (Nagaland Institute of Medical Science & Research) in Kohima, Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA from 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency today donated several priceless specimens of pathological tissues and organs to the institute.

Such pathology specimens were collected over several years of his clinical practice as a surgeon. Long before the establishment of the medical college, he had envisioned this day and had been preserving the specimens. There are several rare medical and surgical conditions of much academic interest in the donated specimens.

Before joining politics, Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, popularly known as Dr Ato, has been a very successful surgeon. Being one of the first laparoscopic surgeons of Nagaland, he served in various parts of Nagaland. He went on to establish his own hospital by the name KOHIMAS to provide affordable health care to even the most needy, and was sought by many not only for his clinical acumen and surgical skills, but also for his humility, empathy and approachability.

Not only was he involved deeply with patient care, but also had far reaching vision for the furtherance and the welfare of medical education which is self evident from his effort to preserve excellent surgical specimens for academic purpose and which he has donated to NIMSR on its auspicious inaugural day.

“It is hoped and prayed that the specimens will contribute greatly to the furtherance of medical education in Nagaland,” according to media cell of the MLA.

It stated that with NIMSR finally becoming a reality, it is a great moment of joy and a day of accomplishment for the Government of India under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Govt of Nagaland under the leadership of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

“The long felt need and a dream of the people of Nagaland have been fulfilled by the commencement of NIMSR. The medical college will surely bring quality education and affordable quality health care with the most modern technology and facility under the dynamic administration of the Dean and Director Soumya Chakraborty along with all the faculty and support staffs,” it added.
