MLA Jacob inspect collapsed bridges and roads

Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): MLA, Jacob Zhimomi inspected the Balijan Bridge, Chathe Bridge, Seithekiema-New Showuba and Seithekeima-Old Showuba roads on October 1. He also interacted with the area elders and commuters, taking stock of the immense difficulties being faced by thousands of people due to deplorable condition of the said roads and by washing away of two important bridges.  

This is his second visit to the affected area in the less than ten days after holding meeting with the elders of Niuland subdivision, stated a press release received here.  

Expressing concern, Jacob has urged the government and the department(s) concerned to expedite the works and ensure timely completion of the same as the two bridges and roads serve as lifeline to entire Niuland subdivision and beyond such as Ralan area (Wokha district).  

Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), Dimapur Division, Er Hukheto who accompanied the MLA briefed Jacob that a fund for temporary/alternate arrangement for Balijan Bridge has been earmarked under disaster management. Jacob also witnessed the ongoing work for the temporary bridge.  

On visiting the site of Chathe Bridge, Jacob was informed that the works for construction of bridge was expected to complete by June 2018.  

Expressing hope that the government and the concerned department would put best effort to restore the road connectivity at the earliest time possible, MLA appealed to the public to be patient and cooperate with the department and the contractors concerned for restoration of the roads and bridges.  

Vitoho Zhimomi, President NPF, 4 Ghaspani-I A/C, Mughavi Swu, President NPF, Niuland unit and officials of Niuland Area Citizens' Forum were among others who accompanied the MLA.
