WOKHA, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): MLA of 40 Bhandari A/C, Achumbemo Kikon on Thursday criticized the actions of the Assam Police and the CRPF stationed at the Disturbed Area Belt (DAB).
Speaking at the SDPDB monthly meeting at Bhandari, Kikon underscored that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), stationed within the DAB, is mandated to provide impartial security to local residents. According to Kikon, the CRPF should operate without fear, favor, or bias toward any state.
He, however, stated that, notwithstanding established agreement that came into force as early as the year 1972, Police from Assam side have put up barricades which were being manned with the presence of some CRPF personnel.
The MLA also called on the border Magistrates of Merapani and Uriamghat to ensure that measures are taken to maintain neutrality at the state borders. He emphasized the urgency of removing the barricades, stressing that state forces must adhere to the parameters of the existing agreements.
Registering a strong protest over the matter, the house demanded those barricades be removed and frisking of local public commuters be stopped immediately.
In additional deliberations, the house resolved to address a local issue concerning the Bhandari sub-division. Recognizing Bhandari's role as a key fish farming hub and its critical supply chain to Wokha district and beyond, the board recommended the establishment of a Sub Divisional Fishery Office to support the region's needs.
With regard to the on-going PMGSY Road L-025 to Sungha village, Kikon said that he will convene a meeting with concerned department and contractors to ensure work quality and completion on stipulated time. He also pressed the PWD R&B to expedite survey work along the Foothill road so that finalization of DPR may be done and work commencement would follow suit on timeline.
