MLA Kikon launches Rs 1.33 cr power project in Wokha district

1.6 MVA sub-station in Merapani to power 21 villages

Wokha, June 4 (MExN): MLA and SDPDB Chairman Achumbemo Kikon today inaugurated a 1.6 MVA (33/11KV) power sub-station at Merapani village, under Wokha district marking a significant upgrade to the region’s electricity infrastructure. As per the DIPR report, the newly installed transformer sub-station will provide reliable power supply to 21 surrounding villages in the district. Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.33 crore (Rs 1,33,80,200), the project aims to address longstanding electricity challenges in the area.

Speaking at the inaugural function, MLA Kikon said that with the inauguration of transformer, the Department will be able to provide sufficient (24x7) uninterrupted power supply and it will help the young people to open a business in various ways. 

He appealed to the people to check power theft, timely payment of electricity bills and imitate awareness programme to conserve electricity for common cause.

The MLA thanked  the Power Ministry, Commissioner Secretary, department officials,  power grid and field workers who were involved in the timely completion of the works. He also extended his gratitude to the land donors and public for extending support and co-operation.

EAC Bhandari, Kilangtemsu (NCS) emphasised on the knowledge of conserving the energy when it is not required and how to the pay bill on time. He urged the people to be a responsible citizen. The EAC while congratulating the Power Department for the achievement, also thanked the MLA for initiative assistance for fulfilling the needs and requirements for the welfare of the people.

The function was chaired by Er Mhaden Murry, Junior Engineer, Bhandari Section while vote of thanks was delivered by SDO (Sanis Electrical Sub-division), Er Vungthungo L Murry. Short speeches were also delivered by VCC Merapani Village, Nyamo Odyuo and Town Council Chairman Bhandari, Khonthungya Odyuo. 

Wokha Electrical Division, Executive Engineer, Chenosing Kemp, presenting the technical report, said ‘though a Departmental project, the initiative and assistance from MLA Kikon, Department officials, Merapani Village Council Chairman, Bhandari Town Council, Bhandari Administration, Land owner all have contributed for the installation and construction success of 33 kV Line from Bhandari Town (2.5 MVA, S/S) to Merapani.’
