Mon, July 7 (MExN): The 3rd inter-ward football tournament organised by the Mon Town Students’ Union (MTSU) in collaboration with District Administration Mon under the theme ‘Stronger Together, Drugs Free Forever’ was graced by K Kongam Konyak, MLA & Advisor, Treasuries & Accounts, Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland.
In his address, Kongam Konyak remarked that Mon Town represents the identity and image of the Konyak community. Therefore, he urged the residents and people of Mon Town to be humble, hospitable and presentable in welcoming guests and visitors.
He lauded the participation of all 11 wards and encouraged the youth to remain focused in life, nurture their talents, and pursue their goals with determination and commitment. Stressing the importance of discipline and character, he advised young individuals to stay away from anti-social activities and avoid using drug and alcohol, particularly those aspiring to achieve success in sports and other fields.
Highlighting the significance of the tournament, he said that such events are a platform to reflect the results of one’s daily practice. He emphasized that true sportspersons must uphold discipline and the spirit of sportsmanship, and cautioned that overconfidence before achieving one’s goal may hinder success. Instead, he emphasised that patience, perseverance and hard work are the keys to becoming successful.
He also stressed the need to balance academic excellence with career aspirations, noting that the state is grappling with a serious unemployment crisis. He encouraged the youth to explore opportunities in human resource development, entrepreneurship, sports, arts and crafts, and competitive examinations to improve their personal livelihoods and contribute to the economic growth of both the district and the state.
The event was also attended by BJP party leaders, along with the President of the Konyak Union, President of KNSK, and President of KSU, who accompanied the MLA during the tournament.
