MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso on Wednesday proposed the introduction of drinking water ATMs in Kohima. He said such facility, when introduced, will reduce the use of plastic water bottles and provide affordable drinking water.
Speaking at a World Environment Day programme on the theme “Cleaner and Greener Kohima,” organised by the Angami Youth Organization (AYO), Dr Ato urged citizens to adopt the motto “My Garbage, My Waste is My Responsibility” and take environmental stewardship seriously.
Miss Nagaland 2024, Anon Konyak, called on youth to lead environmental change, stating that young people have the power to make a meaningful difference.
AYO President Kesosul Christopher Ltu encouraged colony youth to nurture the persimmon saplings planted during the event. AYO also emphasized long-term care of planted trees.
The event featured tree distribution, followed by plantation and cleanliness drives from New Reserve to High School. It was chaired by AYO Environment Secretary Kedoroko Casavi, with distribution led by Vice President Dievi Yano.
