The second day of the Tokhü Emong Festival was celebrated at the Public Ground, Wokha on November 6, with Wokha MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Tseminyu, Arch. Jwenga Seb, gracing the occasion as the special guest. He also officially flagged off the Indigenous Games competition.
Extending Tokhü Emong greetings to the Lotha community, the MLA spoke on the longstanding friendship between the Lotha and Rengma communities, stating that their shared boundaries, forests, and cultural ties have long strengthened their bond. He remarked that visiting Wokha felt like “coming home.”
Emphasising the values handed down by the ancestors, Seb underscored the importance of resilience, hard work, honesty, and unity as guiding principles for the community. He cautioned against dependency on “freebies,” asserting that benefits received without effort often come with consequences, and urged the people to uphold patience, diligence, and integrity in all endeavours.

He further called for responsible preservation of natural resources, reminding that the forefathers practised conservation even in the absence of formal education. Speaking against unethical hunting and fishing driven by greed, he warned that such practices endanger both the environment and the community’s sustenance.
Expressing concern over increasing divisions within society, organisations, and even among national workers, the MLA appealed to the people to rise above tribal and internal differences and collectively work towards unity, harmony, and progress.
The indigenous games were officially declared open by the special guest, with Team Metamorphosis (a local NGO) officiating the event. The competition featured traditional events such as High Jump, Traditional Thread Yarn, Tug of War, and Spear Throwing.
In the Traditional Thread Yarn competition, Lireni Odyuo emerged as the winner, followed by Kimongi Murry and Lokyilongo Kithan as the first and second runners-up respectively.
In the Youdeliting category, Chumben Erui secured the top position, while Chonben Tungoe and Chonben Kikon were adjudged the first and second runners-up.
The High Jump event was won by Nchumbemo Z. Ezung, with Abamgo Ezung and Lanchithung finishing second and third respectively. In Spear Throwing, N Amos Humtsoe clinched first place.
The final match of the Tug of War competition will be held between GHS Colony and Midland Colony on November 7.
