MLA from 2 Dimapur II Assembly Constituency Moatoshi Longkumer on October 27 distributed piglets and poultry chicks to marginalised families under the constituency. Under the aegis of the NITI Aayog’s grant-in-aid and special financial assistance programme to MLAs, some 320 beneficiaries have been identified for the assistance.
At a distribution programme organised at his residence in Indisen village today, Longkumer informed that Rs. 30 lakh has been sanctioned to each MLA to be utilized in aiding the rural economy. “The aim is to use the financial aid to help enhance the earnings of marginalised families. It is for all irrespective of party affiliations. Today is a start and it will continue,” said the NPF MLA.
He said that the assistance will be handed away phase-wise over the coming few days and that the beneficiaries were identified in coordination with the village councils of 11 recognised villages under the constituency. “It is a small means to uplift the local economy by supporting the poorest of the poor.”
While it was not gender specific, he said that women were given precedence for availing the benefit. Stating that his focus has been to promoting women, especially the marginalised through Self Help Groups, he said, “My objective is to help change the economic condition by helping the local economy.”
It was informed that the beneficiaries were given the option of receiving either 2 piglets or 50 chicks alongwith feeds. The feeds were procured through the Department of veterinary & Animal Husbandry.
Dr. Syed Hussain, a private veterinary consultant from Jorhat was on hand to take queries on piggery and poultry from the beneficiaries.
