In an effort to provide a platform for young artists and promote grassroots talent, the Ashipo Society will host the third edition of the Moatsü Mung Concert on May 1 at 6:00 PM at Anu Mai Amphitheatre, Chuchuyimlang village.
The concert, part of the wider Moatsümung celebrations organised by the Chuchuyimlang Village Council and Tourism Committee, will be headlined by Keneisenuo Sorhie and Aseno Metha, alongside young and upcoming artists from the village and neighbouring areas. The event will be open to the public with free entry.
Details of the programme were shared during a press conference held at Hotel Magnus in Mokokchung on April 27, addressed by Ashipo Society president Imlinok, general secretary Kaba Jamir, and members Temsutemjen and Merentoshi.
While Moatsü celebrations are an annual feature, the organisers stated that the concert—now in its third edition—aims to uplift youngsters and encourage emerging artists by offering them a performance platform. They expressed hope that the initiative would also serve as a cultural bridge, reconnecting people, particularly those living away from the village, through shared artistic spaces.
Formed in 2011 with seven core members, the Ashipo Society said it continues to function through goodwill contributions from well-wishers and elders. The society also informed that it is seeking recognition from institutions such as the Task Force for Music & Arts and the Department of Art and Culture for its efforts in promoting folk and folk-fusion music, while expressing interest in expanding into areas including education and entrepreneurship.
It further stated that the Department of Art and Culture has assured some financial support for this year’s edition.
Ahead of the concert, the society has launched an online solo competition focusing on Ao folk and folk-fusion music, with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Entries will close on April 29, and results will be announced on April 30 via the society’s Instagram page. The winner will be given an opportunity to perform at the concert.
The event will be graced by DUCCF president Zasivikho Zakiesato as Special Guest.
The organisers also noted that with a significant portion of the population residing outside the village, the initiative seeks to evoke a sense of connection and belonging, encouraging people to return and engage with their roots through cultural expression.
