Peren, April 4 (MExN): KVK Peren, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie inaugurated Model Goat Village Poilwa Namchi, Pig Village Poilwa and capacity building of vegetable for farmers at Poilwa village on March 31. 

The aim of the programme was to develop a model goat and pig village for breeding purpose so as to enable supply of good quality goat and piglet and production of vegetable crops round the year for sustainable farming, income generation and livelihood improvement.

The programme was funded under TSP project on animal health camp/awareness programme cum input distribution in Peren district of Nagaland; NEH Component of Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB), Ranchi and NEH Component of Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangaluru, stated a press release issued by KVK Peren.

The programme was chaired by Dr L Babita Devi, CTO (Animal Science). She highlighted the details about the programme and a lecture on important diseases of livestock and prevention was also delivered during the technical session. Theme of the programme was shared by Dr Patu Khate Zeliang, ACTO (PBG) and details on seed production of vegetables crops were elaborated.

Dr K L Meena, PS & Head, KVK Peren gave the welcome address and highlighted the KVK activities of the Peren district farmers.

Rangsam, Chairman, Poilwa village and Paunamlung, Chairman, Poilwa Namchi village on behalf of the respective village council expressed gratitude to KVK Peren, for adopting their village for development of model pig and goat village and gave their commitment to uphold the project by forming pig and goat farmers group. 

Special guest I Daniel Hemang, President, Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland congratulated both the villages for being selected as model pig and goat village and also advised to work sincerely with full cooperation following scientific technologies 

The programme was attended by 79 participants of Poilwa, Poilwa Namchi, Helagem, Poilwa Zangdi village including village council members, youth and women representative, and officials.

A total of 22 numbers of Assam Hill Goat and Black Bengal Goat, 1000 kg wheat bran and Maize crush and veterinary medicines (mineral mixture, calcicare, anthelminthics, vitamins, antibiotics, ointments, potash, etc.) Also 30 large white yorkshire piglets, vegetables seeds, hermetic bags distributed as part of the programme.
