The 5th edition Inter-Ward Football Tournament Mokokchung will be held from March 12 to 23. This was announced at a press conference called by Marepkong Youth Association (MYA) on Saturday.
During the press conference, the convenor of the tournament unveiled the new logo and theme of the tournament. The theme of the tournament will be "Rise as one". Additionally he mentioned that the MYA has been organising this tournament for the last four years primarily to nurture home grown talents, keeping in mind to reclaim the glorious past, through peaceful, harmonious and truthful way, while organising and participating in the game.
Further the Association informed that, any team planning to use the logo, in their jersey or any matter, should take the copyright from MYA. The cash prize of the tournament will be 50,000 and certificates for the Champions and 30,000 with certificates to the Runner-up. Besides that, individual prizes will be awarded for Highest Goal scorer, Best Goal keeper, Best Defender and Player of the tournament. Forms for registration will be available at the Cyber 48, Mokokchung Municipal Complex from February 19 to March 2.
The Association also revealed that they are planning to sign MoU with a football academy in Guwahati. The aim is to identify real talents and introduce them to the academy with the consent and willingness from family members of the players.
The Association, meanwhile, encouraged all the eighteen wards of Mokokchung Town to come forward and participate. It also reiterated that the tournament is solely for bonafide citizens of Mokokchung Town and all the ward authorities and youth association have been asked to adhere strictly by the rules of allowing only genuine residents of respective ward (s) to participate. Over the past four years, the champions of the tournament include, 1st edition - Arkong ward, 2nd edition, Artang Ward, 3rd edition - Mongsenbai and the defending champion is Sangtemla ward.
