Mokokchung book lovers get to meet Khekiye Sema

Morung Express News Mokokchung | February 4   Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur today organized one of its kind programme dubbed ‘Meet the author’ at Longkumer Kilem, Mokokchung where retired IAS officer and author, Khekiye K Sema interacted with the book lovers, scholars, senior citizens of Mokokchung and also his fans.   The programme which was hosted by I love Mokokchung facebook group was attend by around forty people from different walks of life; notable among those present were senior citizens like MB Longkumer, academicians from Nagaland University, Lumami, school students, officials of the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem and those who wanted to meet Khekiye K Sema simply out of curiosity and admiration.  

Author Khekiye K Sema – who retired as Commissioner & Secretary, government of Nagaland – gave a brief account of his book ‘Encountering Life – antics of a Government Servant’ and expressed that the adventures and the bridges he has gone through will be faced by the younger generation too. In this regard, he hoped that his book would open up the mind and vision in life of the youngsters.   Calling himself as a village urchin, Khekiye said that he grew up in a village with no vision or dream as a child. However, his family moved on to different stations and slowly opened his eyes to the other world.  Saying that each day should be an experience, Khekiye asserted that life is all about enjoying being able to enjoy everything in life with certain principles of decency and honesty as a means of living and thinking, and a strong belief that there is a God.   With those fundamental principles, every day should be an experience to be looked and remembered, said Khekiye. He also talked about bureaucracy and corruption (from his experiences as a former bureaucrat) and said that most of the bureaucrats and officers have to obey the directives of the politicians, whether it is legal or illegal, without question.   He expressed deep hope that his life story would serve as an inspiration and have the courage in life. He pointed out that his book is not ‘a happy book’ for those he has cursed, but he also pointed out that he had met a lot of astute officers and bureaucrats who have inspired him. He expressed hope that the youngsters would emulate those officers who have served the people with full dedication.   Dr Asangba Tzudir, Editor at Heritage Publishing House, who chaired the programme, gave rich tributes to the author’s mother saying that the book is a reflection of the moral values embedded in Khekiye which came from his mother.   Senior Citizen of Mokokchung MB Longkumer also spoke at the function, while an admin of the I Love Mokokchung facebook group, Al Longkumer also highlighted about the formation, aims and functions of the I Love Mokokchung group to the participants.   It may be noted here that Khekiye K Sema, a retired bureaucrat, is a columnist, an orator, a social activists and an author. His writings in the newspapers and his speeches at different programmes, especially ACAUT rallies, have garnered him much respect in the society especially among the Naga youths.   His book ‘Encountering Life – Antics of a Government Servant’ published by Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur is turning out to be the most sought after book in Nagaland.
