The District Administration, Mokokchung, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and Watsü Mungdang, celebrated International Women’s Day at the conference hall, DC Office, Mokokchung. The event was held under the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung Thsüvisie Phoji, NCS, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of women. He noted that women are making remarkable strides in various sectors, particularly in education and public services, showcasing their strength and capabilities.
C Bendangonen Jamir, Mission Director of Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church, who was the theme speaker emphasised the importance of women’s empowerment, pointing out that many women continue to face domestic violence and societal silence. He stressed that empowerment is not about opposing men but about enabling women to uplift themselves and contribute to a more equitable society.
As part of the celebration, awards were presented to five distinguished women from different fields in recognition of their outstanding contributions. The awardees were: L Bendangla Jamir, Dr Sashila Aier, Dr Temjenwala, Yatetienla (ASHA worker) and Chubasungla (Anganwadi worker).
The programme was chaired by Er Neithozo Thenuo, EAC with invocation led by Tiaakum, Associate Pastor of Youth, Süngkomen Baptist Church and vote of thanks by Putuchiba Walling, Gender Specialist (DHEW).
