Mokokchung, November 26 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has issued an order prohibiting the transportation, import, sale, and entry of live pigs, pork, and pig-derived products from Assam into Mokokchung district, with immediate effect until further notice.
The order follows reports from the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung, regarding surging cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs in several districts of Assam, along with suspected deaths in Tuli Sub-Division.
After convening a coordination meeting with the concerned department and stakeholders on November 26, it was concluded that there were sufficient grounds to impose restrictions to prevent the spread of ASF into Mokokchung and neighbouring areas, the order said.
Accordingly, the order was issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.
Violators will be liable for prosecution under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and other relevant provisions of law, and the restrictions will remain in force until further orders, it added.
