Mokokchung DCPU celebrates Child Rights Week

Mokokchung, November 21 (MExN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, under the Department of Social Welfare, observed Child Rights Week from November 14 to 20, with a variety of events involving communities, school students, and stakeholders. The programme was held under the theme, “Children of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow.”

To commemorate Children’s Day, the DCPU, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), organized a special celebration with the children of the Care & Support Children Home, Tsümarshiong, Chungtia village. Throughout the week, the DCPU, along with Childline under Mission Vatsalya, conducted awareness campaigns on Child Rights and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in various schools, focusing on vulnerable children. In addition, poster campaigns on the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 were carried out in public spaces, police stations, Child Care Institutions, and government offices to raise awareness about child protection laws.

The week-long observance culminated in a consultative meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsüvisie Phoji, NCS, where stakeholders presented their roles, responsibilities, and services for children. They also shared insights into the activities and initiatives they had undertaken to safeguard children’s rights.

Child Rights Week serves as a reminder and a call to action for schools, communities, and institutions to extend care and support to children in need and distress, while promoting and protecting their rights. The DCPU, Mokokchung, under Mission Vatsalya, observed the week-long event, beginning on November 14 and concluding on November 20.
