Dimapur, December 16 (MExN): Mokokchung district has seen a few upgrades in the healthcare sector with the inauguration of a 39-bedded COVID Hospital, and unveiling of foundation stones for the Government College of Nursing as well as a 50-bedded Critical Care Unit at the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung on December 15.
On the occasion, Minister for Health & Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom said that the 39-bedded COVID Hospital is set up as a project of Invest India and ANGii Mission under the guidance and support from the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor of Government of India, supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation in Denmark to strengthen the much-needed health infrastructure. He also expressed his gratefulness to C-Camp Bengaluru for setting up the Hospital while addressing a formal programme held at the Conference Hall, IMDH to mark the inauguration, according to a DIPR report received here on Friday.
On the upgrade of the Nursing School to a Nursing College, the Minister stated that this is taken up to improve and upgrade the nursing services in the state as there is an increasing requirement for highly skilled nursing personnel due to rapid advancement in medical technology. He also expressed appreciation to the Government of India for taking up this initiative under the central sector scheme ‘Development of Nursing Services.’
The Minister said the government has decided to set up the first Critical Care Unit with 50-bed capacity at IMDH Mokokchung owing to its location and accessibility not only for the inhabitants of Mokokchung district but also the neighboring districts, and to augment the capacity of the hospital to manage patients requiring critical care during pandemics and other emergencies.
During the programme, speeches were delivered by guest of honor, Tongpang Ozukum, Minister for Housing & Mechanical and Chubawati Longchar President of the Ao Senden, among others. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Kika, Joint Director, Health & Family Welfare while a vote of thanks was proposed by Dr S Marina Yaden, Medical Superintendent IMDH Mokokchung. The programme was chaired by Dr Limatula Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung, the DIPR informed.
