Mokokchung endorses power separation plan

DIMAPUR, JUNE 15 (MExN): A decision to endorse the separation of the Judiciary from the Executive has been taken by representatives belonging to the Bar Association Mokokchung, DBs, Ao Senden, GBS Union and Ao Senso Telongjem. In view of the important issues concerned, the DC Mokokchung Abhishek Singh had convened a consultative meeting with all concern on June 14  so that the District opinion is finalized. The meeting deliberated on the issues and resolved to endorse the separation of the Judiciary from the Executive; functioning of customary court and the DBs Court to remain in its present status; in urban areas in Mokokchung District, the legal function of the ward council be kept at par with village court.

Meanwhile in a related development, Nagaland Commissioner today deliberated on the issue at hand during a high level meeting with the District Commissioners of the State. However, no conclusion could be arrived today. But the Commissioner T.N Mannen hinted that the meeting, which is likely to continue till tomorrow, might opt for a partial separation of Judiciary from Executive. Mannen also said protection of customary law will be given top priority while taking a decision.
