A 33/11 KV 2.5 MVA sub-station was inaugurated on July 8 at Marepkong ward, Mokokchung by Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh.

In a brief inaugural programme, DC Singh said that the new sub-station is just the beginning and that more sub-stations would be installed in other wards too.

He thanked the Power department, Ungma Village Council, Marepkong ward authority and all concerned departments that assisted in the successful installation of the sub-station. The DC said that there are many genuine demands from the public, and the government looks into the demands and sets its priorities and plans according to the urgency of the needs.

He also noted that citizens also have responsibilities because climate change, lifestyle changes, urbanization and modernization has led to an increased demand of power which will only increase. There is no power generation in Nagaland and therefore it should be the responsibility of citizens to minimize the use of power and use it judiciously.

Short speeches were also given by Chairman, Ungma Village Council, President, All Ward Union, Mokokchung and Chairman Marepkong Ward Council, where they all thanked the department for timely completion of works and working towards the welfare of the people.
