MOKOKCHUNG, JULY 29 (MExN): In view of the ongoing eviction drive by the Assam government targeting alleged illegal immigrants, the Mokokchung district administration has issued a public advisory citing the potential risk of displaced individuals attempting to enter the district.
The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, stated that necessary directives have been issued to all administrative officers, police personnel, village councils, and other relevant stakeholders to closely monitor the situation and prevent any possible influx of undocumented migrants into the district.
The administration has also held coordination meetings with key stakeholders and is working in close collaboration with police, enforcement agencies, and civil society organisations to ensure effective surveillance and timely response.
In an appeal issued on Tuesday, the district administration urged all village councils, urban local bodies, GBs, civil society organisations, and the public to remain vigilant and report any signs of possible infiltration. Contact details for reporting such cases have been disseminated by the authorities.
The advisory emphasized that the move is intended to maintain peace and tranquility in the region and safeguard the demographic integrity of Mokokchung district. It also warned that any individual found sheltering or accommodating such undocumented individuals would be liable for action under relevant provisions of the law.
