
Mokokchung, October 18 (MExN): The Mokokchung Police has arrested one suspected accused in connection with the alleged murder of a 54-year-old man at Metsuben Farm, Chuchuyimpang Village, on October 17.
The police identified the victim as the late Longshang of Angchangyang Mon district, while the suspected accused is Moasangba Jamir of Chuchuyimpang under Mokokchung district.
A press release from the Additional Superintendent of Police & PRO, Mokokchung Police, informed that one .22 rifle and four live rounds, along with three empty cases, were also recovered and seized from the accused at the scene.
Providing a detailed account of the incident, the PRO release informed that at around 4:33 PM on October 17, information was received from a reliable source that a firing incident had occurred at Metsuben Farm, Chuchuyimpang Village.
Immediately, personnel from Mokokchung Police Station-I rushed to the scene for an inquiry. Upon reaching the spot, they found a deceased body near the fishery pond with an injury on his left chest, suspected to be a gunshot.
Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that the deceased had an altercation with his nephew under the influence of alcohol two days prior, the police said.
"The nephew reported the matter to the farm owner to reprimand the deceased's behavior. Witnesses reported that the deceased had come with a Naga Dao and started a verbal argument with them," the release claimed.
As a result, the owner (Jamir) "brought a .22 rifle from his farmhouse and, while intimidating the deceased, fired three rounds, one of which hit the deceased's chest, resulting in his demise," it added. The police further stated that a Naga Dao was recovered near the victim's body.
Accordingly, all necessary formalities were observed upon the deceased's body, and the suspected accused was arrested. The accused was then taken into police custody along with the seized arms and ammunition to prevent further escalation of the situation and ensure the safety of the accused person. He was immediately shifted to a nearby Police Station, the police said.
During the investigation, it was found that the late Longshang was working on Jamir's farm.
Meanwhile, on October 18, a post-mortem examination was conducted at IMDH, Mokokchung, and the deceased's body was handed over to the deceased's family members after conducting all the necessary formalities, the police further informed.
A Suo Motto FIR was lodged, and a regular case was registered at Mokokchung PS-I for further investigation, it added.
