MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The 4th edition of the Mokokchung Town Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament will be held from October 8 to 10 at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The tournament is being organised by Kumlong Sporting Association (KSA) under the aegis of Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) with the theme “Forging Champions.”
Conceived as a grassroots platform to identify and encourage budding volleyball talent, the event is open to players from all 18 wards of Mokokchung town. Over the past three editions, several athletes from the tournament have gone on to represent the district and the state, a press release from the KSA stated.
Since its inception in 2022, the tournament has seen Sungkomen ward (2022, 2024) and Kumlong ward (2023) lift the championship. This year, organisers have introduced a new rule allowing each ward to field two non-resident players, provided they are Ao-Nagas, a move expected to intensify competition.
The 2025 edition carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 for the winners and Rs 30,000 for the runners-up, along with running trophies. Individual awards of Rs 3,000 each will also be presented for the best setter, best spiker and player of the tournament.
