DIMAPUR, JULY 5 (MExN): A number of villages and associations on Wednesday issued an ultimatum to carry out repair and maintenance work along NH 702D Mokokchung-Mariani road within 15 days time.
In a joint ultimatum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, the Changki Village Council, Japu Village Council, Chungliyimsen Village Council, Satsükba Village Council, Atuphumi Village Council, Merayim Vilage Council, AWC Association, Mokokchung to Mariaini Road Side Villagers Concern Forum among others lamented that for the last 15 years, repair and maintenance works along NH 702D have been neglected by the department concerned.
It said repeated request and reminders have felt on deaf ears while adding that the condition of the road has become so deplorable that it has become impossible even for small and light vehicles to ply on the said road, especially along the stretch between Tzurang River and New Camp.
It pointed out that the road in question is the only lifeline through which all materials including essential commodities are transported for public consumption of three districts of Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Tuensang and adjoining areas.
The joint ultimatum therefore cautioned that if repair and maintenance works is not carried out on the given timeframe, it would have no option but to disallow/ban vehicles from plying through the said road.
