Mokokchung: ‘World AIDS Day is a call to action’

District AIDS Control Unit in collaboration with Targeted Intervention (TI) NGO, Care & Support Society, Mokokchung observed World AIDs Day on the theme, “Let Communities Lead” at Conference Hall, Chief Medical Office, Mokokchung. The programme was supported by NACO.

In the programme, Limatongzuk Jamir, Programme Manager, Care and Support Society, Mokokchung spoke on the significance of the day. 

Speaking on the theme, Dr Toshimenla Jamir, District AIDS Control Officer, declared that World AIDS Day, is a call to action, to enable and support communities in their respective roles.

She focused on how HIV & AIDS has cast a dark shadow on the global community, claiming lives with destructions on countless families and individuals with stigmas and discrimination. She further added that inspite of the dark clouds that hovered that there have been beacon of hope, stories of resilience and unwavering determination that have paved a path for a brighter future.

She acknowledged the advancement of science, with reference to the ART (Antiretroviral treatment) that have transformed HIV from dead situation to manageable conditions. She called upon all gathered to ensure access to HIV prevention, treatment and care irrespective of background, creating an environment where individual feel empowered to get tested seek treatment, seek treatment and care, without fear of stigma and discrimination.

A candlelight vigil was also held in the same programme.  The programme was attended by all stake holders, Caregivers and GNM students.
