Mon achieves 96.4% MR vaccine coverage

MON, OCTOBER 30 (MExN): Mon district has achieved 96.4% vaccination of children under the age group of 9 months to 15 years, despite prevailing rumors about the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign.

Out of 58397 children, a total of 56159 children were vaccinated as of October 29 in the district.

A press note from the NHM, Mon district informed that despite facing a lot of criticism, the team has been able to carry out their task; now aiming to cover 2238 more children to achieve full vaccination coverage.

The press note said that the campaign could not have thrived the way it is without support from the district administration. It informed that the Mon DC, K Thavaseelan, who is also Chairman of the District Health Society ensured training of administrative officers in order to visit schools and villages. “He personally visited a good number of schools/villages and administered the MR Vaccine himself in order to endorse the vaccine,” it added.

It meanwhile hoped that combined efforts of the District Health Society, District Administration, Social Welfare, Education Department and the village leaders would help make people aware of the vaccine’s value and ensure full coverage.
