Mon celebrates Blood Donor Day at District Hospital

Mon, June 15 (MExN): World Blood Donor Day, a day dedicated to thanking volunteer, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving contributions, was held at the District Hospital’s conference hall, Mon on June 14. 

It was sponsored by Nagaland State Transfusion Control, organised by District Hospital in collaboration with Mon District Voluntary Blood Donation Association (MDVBDA) and District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDs (DISHA) Mon under the theme ‘Give Blood, give hope : together we save lives.’ 

As a donor, guest speaker Wennyei Konyak, NCS Deputy Commissioner, Mon, gave a brief account of his experience giving blood and how it helped save a life. “Even if we don’t know who we have saved, giving hope and saving lives gives us mental peace and satisfaction,” he remarked. He encouraged all participants who have not yet contributed to donate blood and congratulated all donors, and thanked them for saving lives.

In her vote of thanks, Dr Suppngmenla Walling thanked the Deputy Commissioner, Resource Person, Chaplain DH, Nagaland State Transfusion Control, MDVBA, DISHA, Indian Red Cross Society, Red Ribbon Club members, Shansham organization, ward representatives, KSU, KU, KBBB, and Her Story group for attending the programme. She also encouraged everyone in attendance to spread the knowledge and get registered under the MDVDA.

Resource person Dr Ponwang k MO, I/c Blood Bank, DH Mon, provided a PPT on the concept of blood donation, medical aspects of blood, eligibility criteria for a donor, pre- and post-donation processes, myths and facts, storage and distribution, and the value of blood donation.

The programme was led by Longthrang, DIS, DISHA, with an invocation prayer by Y P David, Chaplain DH, and speeches by Tongmeth, President MDVDA, and Kaonyu, blood recipient.
