Mon District Declares more areas Tobacco-Free

District Level Coordination Committee, Mon meeting held on November 28 at the DC Conference Hall.

Mon, November 28 (MExN): Six villages, 24 schools, and two institutions were declared 'tobacco free' during the Mon District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting held on November 28. The meeting, chaired by District Commissioner Wennyei Konyak, took place at the DC Conference Hall.

During the meeting, several schools were declared Tobacco Free including  Care Well School; Ayo Memorial School; St John School; Little Angel School; Puhu Konjong School; Government Middle School; Government Higher Secondary School; Government Primary School ‘A’; Government Primary School ‘B’; Government Primary School, Borjan; Assam Rifles High School; GMS Chi; GPS Chi; Loung Beginner’s School; GMS Leangha; GPS ‘A’ Changlangshu; GPS ‘B’ Changlangshu; Langsa Hill School; Government Middle School, Phuktong; Little Planet School; GMS Bumei village and Holy Vineyard School

The villages declared tobacco-free are Changlangshu village; Changlangshu Changsa Village; Bumei Village; Guhching Village; Chi Village and Tagam Village. The Medezer Foundation Trust Office and the Manthenien Educational Institute were also declared as tobacco free.

Deputy Commissioner, Mon Wennyei Konyak in his speech encouraged the Village Council Members to be brand ambassadors for tobacco-free villages so that other villages will also follow their example and emulate them. 

He also told the villages and schools not to depend only on the administration and the district  control team but to exercise their power and maintain tobacco free status in their own respective places.
Dr Esther Chophy, District Nodal Officer, NTCP also acknowledged the Village Council members for recognizing the harmful effects of tobacco and banning the sale of tobacco within their villages which is not an easy task and to continue their good work for the welfare of all the village people.

She also acknowledged the contribution of all the school authorities and teachers for maintaining a tobacco free environment which is very important for the healthy growth of all the school children.

A short speech was delivered by Head GB of Changlangshu village and Village Chairman of Chi and Chi Guhching Village. The meeting was attended by DEO; SDPO; School authorities.
