Mon district observes World Pharmacists Day

MON, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): The District Health Society, Mon, observed World Pharmacists Day for the first time on September 25 at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Office, under the theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”.

The programme began with a prayer led by pharmacist K L Senenthai Konyak. Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Aonungdok Tushi Ao highlighted the critical role pharmacists play as the first point of contact for patients, stressing that medicines should never be dispensed by unqualified personnel.

He said the responsibility of pharmacists extends beyond dispensing to medicine management, patient counselling, and preventive healthcare. He urged pharmacists to upgrade their skills through higher studies, research, and professional development to bring positive change to their communities.

Mon District Pharmacists’ Union President Renthungo Lotha delivered the keynote address, outlining the contributions of pharmacists in healthcare and health literacy, and called for strengthened pharmacy practices and patient care. The programme was chaired by pharmacist Moba Konyak and featured experience sharing by retired pharmacist Wangyin Konyak. The event concluded with a prayer for all pharmacists by DH Chaplain David Konyak.
