Mon joins Global Breastfeeding Week celebrations 2019

Mon, August 10 (MExN): Mon District Administration in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) Mon organised an awareness seminar on breastfeeding under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme on the theme ‘breast feed, best feed’ at St. Mary’s High School on August 7. 


A DIPR report stated that the seminar was conducted as part of the Global Breastfeeding Week Celebrations from August 1 to 7. The programme was chaired by Ngepshom Konyak, Women Welfare Officer, MSK Mon.


Resource person, Dr. Shasinle Tep, DPO (UIP & RCH) spoke on the importance of breastfeeding. A mother should breastfeed her child for six complete months. Maternity leave of six months is given to every working mother in order to increase the bond between the mother and her child. Breastfeeding nurtures the child but as mother’s milk is considered as the best feed for a child.


District Coordinator, MSK, Neijoi Konyak highlighted on the aims and objectives of Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) / District Level Centre for Women (DLCW). She spoke on two schemes in detail - Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY).


Angun Lily Konyak, Counsellor of Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Mon highlighted about the programme and services provided by OSC. She further encouraged and motivated the women to stand up for their rights and not keep facing violence.
