The optical Fiber Lines fitted by the Telecom Department since the last months have created untold miseries as far as the road condition and landline connection is concerned in and around Mon Town. Talking about roads, it should be mentioned that the three routes to Mon Town – Wakching road, Tizit road and Aboi roads are in a mess. These precariously narrow roads are being dug for laying OFL, where the dug up earth is piled up along the narrow roads making it impossible even for a single vehicle to ply, and while it rains, vehicles are at the risk to skid down off the road. However in and around the town, the problem is to fold wherein besides damaging the town roads, landlines have been severed as well as landline connections of localities like Mission Compound, New Site and Papong colony have been severed since two months while OFL was connected. Their collective appeal to JTO Mon has fallen on deaf ears since the JTO reportedly has no power within his authority to do anything to repair the damage.
There is a general resentment among the subscribers that they will not pay the rentals for those periods and they are bending on the stance that GM Telecom Dimapur should immediately refit the severed lines and also not charge the rentals. However, while blaming the Telecom Department for the inconveniences caused, one should also ask what is taking the Border Roads so long to repair the damaged roads. It is reported that the Borer Roads has been already paid some 5 crores of rupees for repairing the roads damaged while fitting OFL by Telecom around Nagaland, but at Mon, any sign of repair by Border Roads has not been seen yet.
