Mon observes 100 years commemoration of Satyagraha

MON, SEPTEMBER 14 (DIPR): In commemoration of 100th year anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha, an extempore speech competition was held at the council hall, Mon on September 11 on the topic “Relevance of Non-violence in Today’s World”. The programme was organized by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Mon Unit and sponsored by the Members of Legislative Assembly (Nagaland) Chingwang Konyak, Konngam Konyak and Saboh Konyak.

MLA Chingwang Konyak graced the programme as the Chief Guest. The programme started with the Invocation prayer by the President, DCC (I), Mon. President of NSUI, Mon Unit Minphong Konyak, delivered the welcome speech and led the introduction which was followed by a key note address by the Chief Guest.

The extempore speech competition was held in two categories i.e. High School level and College/Higher Secondary level. In the High School level category, the first prize was bagged by Hangsha Konyak, Class 10, of St. John’s School, Mon; the second prize by Sreema, Class 10, of St. Mary’s School, Mon and the third prize was bagged by Manshen Konyak, Class 8, of Angjong Mission High School, Mon. In the College/Higher Secondary level category, Savio, Class 12, of Wangkhao College, Mon bagged the first prize; the second prize went to Phuhton Konyak, BA-II, of Wangkhao College, Mon and the third prize was bagged by Nyemwang, Class 11, of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Mon.

The Chief Guest Chingwang Konyak, MLA, 46-Mon Town A/C, gave away the prizes to the winners and Certificate of Participation to all the participants. The programme was compered by Yoangmei Konyak, and the function concluded with a voice of prayer by the Secretary, DCC (I), Mon.
