Mon: Red Ribbon Club joins marathon race in fight against HIV & AIDS

Mon, August 12 (MExN): The “Red Run” marathon race for Red Ribbon Club members was held starting from Helipad ground to Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon on August 12. 

In commemoration of international youth Day, the event was organised by the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Mon under the aegis of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), offering a chance to raise awareness of the need to ensure the engagement and participation of youth in HIV & AIDS programme. 

Altogether 42 RRC members from WGC, Mon Ville College and Govt Higher Secondary School participated for the marathon race.

A press release received here stated that Dr Esther P Konyak, Vice Principal of WGC Mon, addressed the youths about International Youth Day and Education. Longyim Tzudir, DPO DAPCU Mon expressed his appreciation towards increasing members of red ribbon clubas it is a movement to create awareness on HIV & AIDS and drug abuse.  Rongsennungla, Assistant Prof, Nodal Officer RRC, WGC took her time for prize distribution. 

The winners were presented with prize money and certificate signed by CMO. Other participants also received certificate. 

The race was flagged off by District Sports Officer, Mon Thepfuradi Zumvu. Longthrang DIS DAPCU chaired the event and briefed on the objectives of Red Run and gave instructions to the runners. 

Later, the mobile ICTC conducted voluntary HIV & AIDS testing and a bike outreach worker was also present to encourage individuals to test.
