Mon, April 30 (MExN): A district-level Quality Assurance Meeting under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) initiative was held at the Office of the Chief Medical Officer on April 29, in view of the ongoing “100 Days NQAS” drive.

The meeting was attended by district programme officers, district programme managers, district community mobiliser, block programme managers, ASHA coordinators and other health officials.

The deliberations focused on strengthening quality standards across health facilities in line with the NQAS framework, which integrates various national health programmes and emphasises comprehensive service delivery.

District Programme Manager (Quality Assurance) Yeangao highlighted the need for collective responsibility in achieving NQAS certification. She said that, unlike other districts, no health facility in the district has yet achieved certification, resulting in increased pressure from higher authorities. The district has accordingly been placed on priority for meeting NQAS targets.

Referring to a recent visit by the state monitoring team, she said several gaps and deficiencies were identified across facilities, underlining the need for systematic improvement and preparedness.

She informed that four Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) have been identified as priority facilities for certification — Yakshu (Tobu block), Yannu (Tizit block), Totok Chingkho (Mon block) and Chinglong (Aboi block). The selection was based on performance scores and recommendations from block and district officials.

Explaining the NQAS checklist, she said it is a comprehensive assessment tool covering all aspects of healthcare delivery, and urged staff to familiarise themselves with it and ensure compliance with prescribed standards.

District Programme Manager (NHM) Moie Bonnie Konyak outlined key requirements for certification, including strengthening infrastructure, ensuring availability of essential supplies, improving documentation practices and enhancing staff capacity through training. She also stressed the importance of conducting gap analysis in the selected HWCs and implementing corrective measures in a time-bound manner.

District Programme Officer (RCH and UIP) Dr Wungyong Konyak pointed to lack of ownership and accountability among some staff as a major challenge, and said commitment at all levels is essential to improve service quality and achieve certification.

The meeting concluded with a call for coordinated action, regular monitoring and active participation of all programme in-charges to ensure effective implementation of NQAS and delivery of quality healthcare services in the district.
