After a DEF personnel’s TrueNat test result returned positive on June 24 evening, the Mon district administration has enforced a total lockdown of the district and contact tracing has been initiated.

The police constable under District Executive Force (DEF) was posted for duty at a Quarantine Centre (QC).

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mon, Thavaseelan K informed The Morung Express that 29 samples have been sent to ICMR Dibrugarh to be tested on priority basis on June 25.

The constable’s sample was also sent for confirmatory test to ICMR Dibrugarh as the chemical agent required to confirm a sample as a ‘true positive’ via TrueNat is unavailable in the State presently.

Samples of all those who came in contact with him have been collected and tested on June 25. “Today’s TrueNat results have all showed negative results. But if they have been infected, it won’t show in immediate tests. So, their tests will be conducted again after 6-7 days,” the DC said.

Out of the 29 samples, 24 are high risk as they are connected to the case. The results are expected tomorrow afternoon, the DC said.

14 personnel who were on duty at Wangkhao College Mon QC along with the COVID-19 suspect have also been quarantined in the QC. Family members of the COVID-19 suspect DEF personnel and the others he came in contact with have been home quarantined.

The lockdown order passed by the DC on June 24 stated that the district will be under total lockdown from June 25 to 28.
Movement of public has been strictly prohibited, except on medical emergencies.

All shops except pharmacies will remain closed and movement of private vehicles has also been strictly prohibited.

The DC added that the lockdown will continue till next week if needed. Contact tracing is on to find out every person the Jawan came in contact with and until each of them is tested, the lockdown will be in force.

“It will be inconvenient for the people but containing the spread is more important,” he said.
