Monalisa Changkija
New Delhi, December 7 (MExN): Noted Naga journalist, Monalisa Changkija, has been announced as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards 2025.
Changkija, who is also a recognised poet and writer, was selected for her “remarkable and sustained contribution to journalism in the North East India region.”
The first female publisher-editor of a daily newspaper in the State, Changkija founded and ran the Nagaland Page from 1999 to 2024, establishing herself as a powerful voice speaking truth to power.
According to an official announcement, a five-member jury comprising former AIR Director General Moushumi Chakrabarty, senior journalists Achinta Bora (PTI), Sandeep Phukan (The Hindu), Sachin Gogoi (BBC), and IIMC Aizawl Regional Director Prof. Shashwati Goswami evaluated the nominations across various categories.
Alongside Changkija, Amal Goswami, Chief Staff Reporter of Dainik Janambhumi, Assam, won the award in the Print category; Kshetrimayum Premchand, Chief Reporter of SKTV News, Imphal, was selected in the Electronic Media category; and Mridul Kumar Handique of Pratidin Digital, Assam, received the Digital Media Award.
No entries were received for the Still Photography and Videography categories, the announcement added. The awards recognise journalists who have excelled in reporting on issues related to the North Eastern region.
The awards will be presented on December 11at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late Barooah.
The awards are conferred by the North East Media Forum (NEMF), a Delhi-based organisation for journalists working in Delhi-NCR who hail from the North East or report on the region, in collaboration with My Home India, an NGO dedicated to fostering emotional integration between people from different parts of India and those from the North East.
