Heavy rainstorm accompanied by gusty winds lashed several parts of Nagaland Monday evening leaving along a trail of destruction.
According to initial reports from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), four houses was completely destroyed and another 10 were partially damaged in Longmatra town in Kiphire. Four electric poles were also uprooted.
There were three cases of injury out of which one was admitted to hospital, the report said.
In Dimapur, the storm touched ground at around 5:10 PM, thereafter moving upward to Kohima, Wokha and other areas of the state.
An NDSMA official said that damages to houses and trees were reported from Chumoükedima, Rilan area, Mon and Mokokchung. Reports of damages, casualties if any from the rest of the districts are still being collected, the official said.
Meanwhile, apart from uprooting trees, electricity supply was also severely hit in most part of Dimapur and surrounding areas nearly 3-4 hours after the storm.
The Indian Metrological Department (IMD, in an update on May 13, informed that it observed a cyclonic circulation over Bihar and a trough extending from this system to South India.
Another cyclonic circulation is also seen over Arunachal Pradesh, This means, moderate to heavy rains will continue in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, East Bihar, parts of Jharkhand and Odisha will witness light rains, it added.
The IMD also predicted a fresh Western Disturbance to affect northwest India from May 15 evening onwards and cause scattered to widespread precipitation over Western Himalayan region besides isolated to scattered rain/thundershower over adjoining plains.
