
Kohima, Dec 30 (MExN): Dr. Shurhozelie, Minister for Planning and Coordination addressing the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (DVYO) Day at the Kohima Panchayat Hall today urged the youths to be self reliance and acquire dignity of labor which would overpower the unemployment problem in Nagaland.
He encouraged the youths to establish themselves in the business sector and not cling to only government jobs. He urged the youths to apply the motto of ‘Start small and think big’ in their endeavors and avail the various options offered in the business industry.
However, he also opined that one should be serious and sincere to establish such tasks as the increasing population results in more competition. The Minister further stressed on the alarming situation of outsiders running business in the State.
“240 crores is spent annually on the manual labourers in Nagaland who are mostly non-locals”, informed the Minister while challenging the youths to wake up and surrender their dignity to work for oneself and added that ‘if we are not lazy, we can be rich and prosper’.
It may be mentioned that according to a survey conducted, it has been observed that from the existing 3000 shops in Kohima, the owners are mostly non-locals or outsiders.
While encouraging the DVYO youths, Dr. Shurhozelie also said that knowledge and wealth should not be monopoly but should be the binding block for all.
Comparing to the past life when the people lived in a very conservative and decreed environment, he urged the youths present that since people are more educated and aware of the world today, one can do much better in establishing oneself. He also emphasized that honesty will lead to good results in everything.
While stating that the village should be given the topmost priority, the Minister also encouraged the youths to highlight the importance of the word ‘Kewhimia’ (Kohima villagers) and apply the same as one’s identity while communicating.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that the Government has decided to take over the Kohima Arts College by February 2006 and is planned for shift to D.M School which will be renamed as Dhinovicha Memorial (DM) Government College, as informed by the Minister. He also mentioned that the new college can accomodate about 5000 to 6000 students.
Earlier, invocation prayer was offered by Rev. Viwelie Khezhie, Senior Pastor, Khedi Baptist Church while a short exhortation was delivered by Kedeuotuolie Mepshü-o, Chairman, KVC. Besides other presentations, the highlight of the day included special performance by the renowned Methaneilie.
A brief reported on the DVYO was delivered by one of its representatives and vote of thanks was pronounced by Keduozelhou Khruomi.
