Kohima, May 18 (MExN): As preparation to tackle any disaster that the State may face during the monsoon season, the district disaster management authorities are holding meetings on monsoon preparedness.
In the state capital, a meeting on monsoon preparedness of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima was held under the chairmanship of DC Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS at DPDB meeting hall, Kohima on May 18.
A DIPR report stated that the DC Kohima briefed on the possible disaster which may occur any time, therefore, he instructed the officers of different departments to be available to handle any kind of vulnerable disaster. Kohima being expecting a long monsoon, landslides, forest fire incidents etc becomes more likely, therefore, the DC apprised the officers to identify and survey the likely possible locations for better preparedness.
He instructed the department of PHE, CMO, PWD, SDRF, KMC, Water Resources, Agri & Allied etc and other line departments to equip themselves with the required tools and machineries to address any unforeseen incidents.
DDMO Kohima, Thejangulie Zao highlighted on the Indian Disaster Resources Network portal (IDRN) and requested the department to access the portal by providing the necessary details of their department’s equipment for managing the portal better.
The house was also appraised about the disadvantages of the overloaded trucks plying on the national highway which add to the wear and tear of the roads.
The DC advised the SDRF and DEF to train their personnel by analyzing the possible situations for better coordination. He also advised everyone to clean their drainages so that this monsoon rainfall would not create more problems.
Zunheboto: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Zunheboto held a meeting to discuss various issues in regard to monsoon preparedness on May 17. The Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS chaired the meeting.
A DIPR report stated that the house discussed the agenda to avoid any major life loss during landslides and flash floods. Landslides being a main issue in the district, the DC Zunheboto directed the disaster management, PWD, medical departments etc to be on high alert all the time. To combat the disaster, he further asked the disaster management, PWD (mechanical) and R&B departments to keep their JCBs ready at all times.
It was also confirmed that 30 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were briefed and they will be ready anytime in case of any disasters or emergencies, the DIPR report stated.
In regard to the report of a house razed down by fire at Akuluto town, the DC asked the OC fire and fire brigade to be on high alert 24/7 with proper equipments to avoid such incidents.
Mali asked the Food & Civil Supplies, and Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce & Industries to keep food stocks for at least 3 months so as to be ready to combat any kind of disasters.
Regarding road maintenance, the DC Zunheboto directed the NHIDCL and various contractors to keep the highways pliable, especially during the monsoon. He also asked PWD (R&B) to maintain the intra-district roads i.e. Coco, Ghukiye and Nunumi roads, so that during disaster or emergencies those roads can be used by public.
He also requested the medical department to be on high alert while adding that it is the responsibility of the department to contain or control contagious water borne infectious diseases like diarrhea, malaria, dengue etc.
Dr Akaho, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto said that though the department has always been giving their best in all situations, due to lack of proper equipments there are some lapses and therefore, requested the DC to ‘upgrade the district hospital equipment soon.’
He also reported that there are two ambulance at district hospitals, 10 ambulances at subdivision levels, 15 doctors and 30 medical officers at subdivisions and around 200 nurses at rapid response team at block levels.
Mon: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Mon conducted a quarterly meeting of DDMA on May 16 at the DC conference hall, Mon. Deputy Commissioner Mon & Chairman DDMA Mon Ajit Kumar Verma, called the members to review the pre-monsoon preparedness in the district.
Superintendent of Police Mon, Uniel Kichu requested the members to work in unity and proper coordination among the members for the progress of the district.
The following departments briefed their preparedness for pre-monsoon: PWD (R&B)/Housing, Out Post Administration of Town Councils, District Education Officer, Food & Civil Supplies, Chief Medical Officer, Veterinary and Animals Husbandry, Power, Home Guards & Civil Defence SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services.
