Monsoon season re-exposes Nagaland’s PDA govt, asserts RPP

Dimapur, August 21 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) today stated that the ongoing monsoon season once again  has “exposed” the ruling People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Nagaland.

Among other issues, it highlighted Dimapur’s “utterly unpliable roads” and the potential for a dengue epidemic due to flooding caused by a poor drainage system to support its claim.

The RPP further accused the PDA government of being obsessed with only two things—the establishment of Chiethu airport and Nagaki Global City—while road and other infrastructure in the state have taken a hit.

According to the party, the maintenance of roads in urban areas was previously under the State PWD; however, it was transferred to the Urban Development Department (UDD) a few years back by the present dispensation. “Today, the UDD is only concerned with Nagaki City, apparently motivated by the cost of the project, which according to reports is in the hundreds of crores,” the RPP alleged.

Another project being pursued by the PDA government with missionary zeal is the Chiethu airport project, which is worth thousands of crores if approved, it added. According to the RPP, though the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has clearly stated that the site is not feasible, the PDA government refuses to give up, even as the only airport and the railway station at Dimapur “languish due to rampant encroachment.”

The PDA government is urged to table a White Paper on the two encroached places in the upcoming NLA session scheduled for August 27, it added.

Citing “sources,” the RPP also claimed that those pursuing the Chiethu project have already “invested crores in buying the proposed airport site” and that the “same modus operandi” is being replicated with the Nagaki City site. Today, the biggest criminal syndicate in Nagaland is a small cabal of politicians who control almost all the resources of the state, the RPP asserted. This situation of resource and funding control is only possible in an opposition-less government, it said, with the cabal playing with thousands of crores while the rest of the MLAs are “only too happy with crumbs and JCB.”

“The fraud called opposition-less government is all the sadder when all the MLAs nodded in agreement when the cabal suggested the formation of a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) to facilitate the Naga solution!” it added.
