More than 100 youth attend Peren District Youth Convention

Peren, February 11 (MExN): Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Peren conducted District Youth Convention (DYC) at Women Welfare Community Hall, Peren on February 8.


Special guest for the event, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, ADC, Jalukie asked the youth to take due advantage of the opportunities offered by various government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to enhance oneself.


He further called upon the youth to be responsible in taking one’s own culture forward for posterity, while adding one should feel proud of one’s culture. 


The ADC further urged the students to give due importance to the field of education and economic development, as per a press release from John Makhabo.


He reiterated that all students will not get government employment, “rather one should give importance to income generating activities.”


He also appreciated that many young women are “meaningfully engaged in entrepreneurship in Jalukie and Peren.”


John Makhabo, DYC, NYK, Peren in-charge in his keynote address stated that NYKS is the biggest grassroots level movement in Asia Pacific region with 1.5 lakh youth clubs affiliated to NYK, which focuses on capacity building of the youth at large. 


He acknowledged the youth to take up entrepreneurship and provide jobs to other youth. He noted that Jalukie belt is “very viable for fishery projects,” and further called upon the youth to take enhancing economic activities as a priority.


More than 100 youth from various youth clubs attended the programme. Dr Chang gave away financial incentive and sport materials to the winners of cultural teams to the applicants from youth clubs. The day programme was anchored by Asuiyibe, NYV, while the invocation prayer was led by Alung, NYV. Vote of thanks was delivered by Plamdibo, NYV.
