More awareness on total ban of plastic in Kohima sadar

Kohima, September 24 (MExN): An awareness programme on total ban of single use of plastic was held on September 23 at EAC office, Botsa.


A DIPR report stated that EAC Botsa, Saratho Katiry urged the gathering to form Village Sanitation Board in their respective villages to effectively monitor plastic free environment. He exhorted on the need to produce and promote indigenous biodegradable products and also highlighted the importance of collectively working together as a whole to bring about successful ban on use of plastics. 


Dr. Ropfukolhou Dole gave a speech on the hazardous effects of plastics on health and environment and encouraged the gathering to dig compost pits so that biodegradable substance could be effectively utilized to the optimum. 


Short speech was also given by Zhahelie Rio, VCC and Joel Kath, President Botsa Business Community Union where they stressed on the importance of community participation and assured their cooperation towards ban on plastics. 


A powerpoint presentation on plastic ban was presented by Dziesengunuo Kire, EAC Chiephobozou while invocation was pronounced by Khriezelhou, Pastor Baptist Church Seiyhama.


Another DIPR report stated that a meeting with the frontal youth organizations of Kohima Village, Chedema Village and Chede Model Village was held in the office chamber of SDO (C) Sadar, Kohima on September 23. The meeting was held to chalk out a programme for the effective enforcement of total ban on single use plastic under Kohima Sadar from October 1.


The meeting decided to organize various activities in collaboration with the above mentioned youth organizations under Kohima Sadar area in the run up to the aforementioned ban as follows:  formal launch program for awareness on ban of single use plastic under Kohima Sadar and launching of Village Level Task Force for implementation of ban on single use of plastic for Sadar area villages at DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima on September 26. Installation of RO Water Purifiers at Council Halls of Kohima Village, Chedema Village and Chede Model Village at Council Hall Kohima Village, Chedema Village and Chede Model Village on September 26. Volunteers from all three villages will conduct awareness march within their respective village jurisdiction in order to sensitize and create awareness at grassroot level.


The meeting also decided that biodegradable banners would be used during various programs as mentioned. SDO (C) Sadar, Longasen appealed to all the villages and stakeholders under Kohima Sadar to actively participate and support the ban on single use plastic to make the implementation of the ban a success.
