Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): More organizations today condemned the rape of a minor allegedly by 68-year-old man in Mokokchung on June 4 and 8.
The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) has demanded that the accused identified as Alemchiba be punished according to the provisions of the law. Asserting that such act is highly “condemnable and unimaginable in a civilized and Christian society like ours”, ENWO in a press release issued by its General Secretary, Sojila Chang and Info & Press Secretary, Maipo Wallim expressed deep concern for the lives and dignity of women in the State. The apex body of the Eastern Nagaland women further demanded stringent and befitting punishment for the accused as demanded by its unit in Mokokchung.
In another press release, Nagaland Alliance for Women and Child Rights (NAWCR), Mokokchung unit strongly condemned the rape and demanded that the accused should not be granted bail under any circumstances unless justice is delivered to the victim.
Yuching Students' Union (YSU) has also denounced the incident terming it “inhuman and barbaric act”. A press release issued by YSU President, Ponwang alleged that the victim was raped, tortured and threatened of dire consequences. “Such ill and evil minded person (the accused) should have no place in the society,” the press note stated. The union further appealed to all likeminded citizens and organisations to condemn such act. At the same time, it urged the authority concerned to award befitting punishment as per the law of the land and deliver justice to the victim and her family. The union warned that it will not tolerate if the accused is granted/ released on bail.
