More counter-clarification on GB ‘manhandle issue’

Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): The son of a Pangti GB (who was charged with assaulting a person secretary of a former election candidate) has issued a clarification on the matter that his father, GB R Opemomo was charged with the assault and later arrested in court.

Yanrenthung Jami stated in a note that the GB is one of the complainants against former JD (U) candidate Ekyimo Kikon in connection with an offense. On May 18 during a late afternoon court proceeding of the Fist Class Judicial Magistrate, Kohima, there was an argument between the GB and one Rolland, stated to be the PS to the candidate. The argument was due to “the interference and interruption meted out by Shri. Rolland Ezung by writing down, noting down the statement given by the GB inside the court room,” the note explained. The GB requested the PS not to provoke the situation as he (Ezung) was not a party in the present case or even officially appointed as PS to Kikon “as a defeated candidate.”

Since the argument started between the two and the charge, the GB was kept in police custody till the hearing for the day was over, the note explained, adding that he was subsequently released after apologizing. The clarification also mentioned that the incident happened in the presence of the Magistrate, advocate and other parties. In this regard the note called for apology in regard to the allegation that the GB had manhandled the PS. Action would be taken in case of failure to offer the apology, the note warned.
