Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): More organizations and institutions in Nagaland celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21.
Ahthibung Block: Ahthibung block in Peren district observed the day under the aegis of Vahneihoi, NYV Volunteer, Ahthibung block. Village ASHA member, Hatkholam Changsan, who was the resource person, elaborated on the concept of yoga and highlighted the importance of yogic postures in maintaining a balanced and healthy life. It was followed by ‘Yoga Asanas’.
BJP Nagaland: BJP Nagaland celebrated the International Yoga Day at Dayanand Vidya Niketan, Naharbari, Dimapur on June 21. HYS: Hindu Yuva Sanga (HYS) joined free yoga camp organised by Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhimman Trust at Holy Cross Hr Sec School auditorium, Dimapur. The event was powered by Dimapur Bongs, Dimapur Meetei Council, Hindu Seva Samiti, Marwari Samaj, Gorkha Samaj and Sikh Samaj.
Ibaung Thou Memorial School: Students and teachers of Ibaung Thou Memorial School, Jalukie observed the day by participating in a yoga programme jointly organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and Peren District Youth Resources and Sports at the Indoor Stadium, New Market Colony, Jalukie Town. 50 students and seven teachers from the school attended the programme.
JSS: Janjati Shiksha Samiti Nagaland observed the 4th International Yoga Day with Yoga Instructor Pankaj Sinha at Kevijau Colony, Dimapur.
KROS College: KROS College, Kohima celebrated the day by conducting activities for dissemination and popularization of the International Yoga Day.
KVK & ICAR-NRC: The staff of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek and Regional Station, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Porba observed International Yoga Day at Training Hall of KVK-Phek. The programme started with Shanti Prarthana followed by Pranayam and Asanas.
LFHSS: Livingstone Foundation Hr Sec School (LFHSS) observed International Yoga Day at its green lawns, organized by North East Zone Cultural Centre in collaboration with LFHSS and with logistical support from 24 NL (I) Coy NCC, Kohima and 1 Naga Girls Battalion NCC, Kohima. Deputy Director (Admin) of NEZCC, D. Vashum addressed the gathering. The yoga session was led by Yoga Guru from Nagaland and a National Bronze Medalist, Orentsani Suzane, who imparted Yoga Asanas (Yoga Steps) including the Surya Namaskar or Sun Obeisance. Altogether, 1237 students including NCC cadets from nine schools and four colleges of Dimapur participated in the programme.
MGM College: MGM College observed the day in collaboration with Department of Youth Resources & Sports. The programme was conducted in two sessions – orientation followed by practical yoga poses. Students from MGM College, MGM Hr Sec School, and Yemhi Memorial College took part in the programme.
Model Christian College: Model Christian College observed International Yoga Day at the college auditorium. Henjalen Lhouvum, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, spoke about ‘International Yoga Day’, emphasizing on the importance of physical and mental wellbeing which yoga or meditation contributes.
Modern College: Modern College Kohima also celebrated the 4th International Yoga Day at the college auditorium.
NU Lumami: The Yoga Day celebrated at I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami was chaired by Peter Ki, PRO. Prof. NS Jamir, Registrar I/c gave a short speech, while Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon presented a report of the 50-day long celebration of yoga culminating on June 21. Vice Chancellor Prof. Pardeshi Lal outlined the retrospective perspective of yoga and its significance. He also demonstrated the Yogic Asanas and the same were performed by the participants.
NCC Girl Cadets: International Day of Yoga was celebrated by NCC Girl Cadets in all districts of Nagaland with participation of around 3900 cadets along with officers, PI staff and associated NCC Officers (ANOs) of 1 Nagaland (Girls) Bn NCC. The event was centrally coordinated by 1 Naga Girls Bn NCC, Kohima and conducted in 17 venues across the State. “This is considered a big achievement considering NCC already has a record for largest Yoga performance simultaneously by a single uniformed youth organisation at multiple venues in 2015,” stated a press release. Col Rajeev Kumar, CO, 1 Nagaland Girls Battalion NCC Kohima said that 300 NCC Girl Cadets from the Unit also got the opportunity to perform yoga with the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya at IG Stadium.
PVHSS: FOB, Tuensang, Bureau of Outreach Communication (BOC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India organized celebration of the day in Dimapur at Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS) in collaboration with the school. Sajal Roy, yoga instructor gave a demonstration on the various yoga posture (Asanas). He also guided the gathering in performing various yoga postures. A quiz competition was also conducted to mark the occasion
Unity College: Unity College, Dimapur while observing the International Day of Yoga encouraged the students to discover the holistic and healthy way of life. Yoga session was conducted at the college campus under the guidance of Sudeep.
WHCC: The 25th NL (I) Coy NCC Woodland Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto observed Yoga Day with ANO Dipen Kalita and CSM Bombo Yeptho as instructors. Around 45 cadets participated in the programme held at the school compound.
