More orgs flay ‘taxation’ notice to business entity; one held

Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): More organisations have flayed the alleged notification issued by cadres of a Naga National Political Group (NNPG) to a business entity in Dimapur even as the police informed that a person has been arrested in connection with the issue.

According to an update by the Dimapur Police on its official Twitter account, one person identified as Vicca Chophy, a cadre of GPRN/NSCN was arrested on May 21 in “connection with the T K Service extortion related case.” A suo moto case has been registered in East PS in this regard, it added.

The alleged tax demand notification issued to TK Service / Progressive Motors has elicited widespread condemnation from various quarters.

CCCPO: The Chumoukedima Circle Chakhroma Public Organisation (CCCPO) also expressed its utter shock over what it called “the act of some anti social elements calling themselves as national workers and demanding illegal taxation and issuing threats.”

“The authorities in the particular group to which the extortionist claim themselves to belong need to issue a public clarification as to whether the act of extortion and intimidation was done under the authority of the group or it was committed by a few erring cadres,” the CCCPO stated in a press release.

Reiterating to stand by the resolution for "one tax one government," it further said that “any group going against the will of the people will be considered anti-social and will automatically lose the co-operation of our people.”
The release issued by CCCPO President Neikhriehu Kense and General Secretary, Khriebulie Peseyie also appealed “the higher authorities of NNPGs to rein in their erring personnel and keep them within limits in order to avoid misunderstanding and ugly situations.”

DJYO: Condemning the action as “unwarranted threat,” the Dimapur Jotsoma Youth Organization (DJYO) stated that the “numerous threats and harassment sustained” by the concerned business entity in general and the proprietor in particular, “is a cause of great concern.”  The DJYO echoes the sentiments of the Naga public when it comes to 'One Government One Tax' and is ready to extend its cooperation to the NNPGs as and when required, but vehemently denounces the use of coercion, it said.   The group in question would be held “solely responsible should any harm befall the family members or staff,” stated a press release issued by DJYO President Avilie Nagi.

JVC: The Jotsoma Village Council (JVC) has expressed extreme dismay over the incident.

The Council strongly condemns the incident and demand of taxation, more so in these difficult times amidst a pandemic, stated JVC in a press release issued by its Chairman, Mego Nagi and Secretary, Rüdosielie Peseyie.

The JVC denounces the illegal act and states that such acts will be viewed in all severity as it infringes the very basic rights of human, it said.

It further appealed to the Government and all stakeholders to “hasten and address the Naga political issue as multiple taxation, extortion and illegal activities by so called NNPGs is a common evil.”

The Council also acknowledged and expressed its appreciation to various organisations for the support in condemning the “inhumane act.”

KYC: The Kuda Youth Club (KYC) has also condemned the “dastardly act” and the “harassment and unjustified demand.” Taking strong note of the “numerous occasions” the concerned business entity had suffered under the unscrupulous elements,”  the KYC  press release  stated that it would not be mute spectators and cautioned  “all anti-social elements that hiding behind the cover of NNPG's will not be tolerated.” The KYC also insistes all Naga political groups to consider the fact that the Naga public stands for 'One government one tax,” it said.

Meanwhile, the release issued by KYC General Secretary Rokozoto Meru and Vice President Rüüzhalie Nagi, also expressed appreciation to Dimapur police for the timely action and appealed the concerned authority to expedite the investigation without relent.

WSH: The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has also strongly condemned the recent “extortion” bid and called it “inhumane, insane and outrageous” given that everyone is facing great hardships due to such difficult situation prevailing in the world due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The WSH has viewed the incident with all seriousness and wanted to take up the issue with the higher authorities but has expressed appreciation to the police for their prompt action for arresting the culprit involved in it, the Hoho informed in a statement.

“The WSH has demanded not to bail out the culprits but to give an exemplary punishment so that such random and reckless acts are not carried out in future,” the statement added.

The Hoho further asked all the NNPGs to adhere to the principle of 'One Tax One Government' in letter and spirit and rein in and control their erring cadres from such acts. It further urged its community member in particular to “desist from such despicable ways which has tarnished and shamed the community every now and then.”

The Naga Political Solution needs to be arrived at the earliest inorder to eradicate this malady and for the Nagas to become self reliant, the WSH further stated.
