More resign, more join

Morung Express News
Dimapur | February 3

In what seems like a toppling house of cards for the NPF, more legislators have resigned from the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Three NPF legislators today gave their resignations to the Speaker of the NLA, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, who, in turn, accepted their resignations. The resigned include Imtikumzuk from 26-Aonglenden (ST) A/C, Merentoshi R Jamir from 25-Mongoya (ST) A/C and Tovihoto Ayemi from 1-Dimapur-I A/C.   Meanwhile, Shetoyi Sumi, Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Printing & Stationery, gave his resignation on February 2.

Tovihoto Ayemi has already been declared the BJP’s candidate to the upcoming Nagaland State Assembly elections.

What the others may do is indicated by the fact that 11 former legislators, who had resigned from the 12th NLA on January 30 and one on January 20, have joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). They are Noke Wangnao, C.M. Chang, Tokheho Yepthomi, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Pukhayi Assumi, Zhaleo Rio, Deo Nukhu, P. Pohwang Konyak, Neiba Kronu, Namri Nchang and Vikho-o Yhoshu.

A press release from the NDPP Media and Communication Committee stated, “Their joining the party will boost the image of the NDPP to greater heights and widen the door for a thumping mandate of the NDPP-BJP pre-poll alliance if elections are held; enabling the party to work towards peace, tranquility and all round improvement.”
