
Kohima, October 17 (MExN): The final of the 3rd edition of the ongoing Morning Champions Cup (MCC) will be played between Amur Falcon Football Club (AFFC) and last year’s finalist Morung United Football Club (MUFC) on October 18, at Jakhama Local Ground.
On their way to the final, AFFC outclassed 2016 MCC’s champions Mrh FC by four goals while MUFC recorded an emphatic 5-2 win over Ziekezou Seniors, with their star striker Atokito scoring all the five goals.
The two losing semi-finalists - Mrh.FC and Ziekezou Seniors- will also play for the third place on the same day.
The Morning Football Association, the organizer of the tournament informed in a press release that the MCC is another competition that is held right after the conclusion of Morning Premier League (MPL).
But unlike MPL, which is a league based tournament, MCC is a knockout based competition, where 10 teams are divided into two groups of five teams, it said.
The organizers further informed that the two tournaments, for players above the age of 30, does not have any cash prize but purely undertaken to improve one’s individual health by “waking up early in the morning and playing football with family and friends.”
Apart from the coveted MCC trophy, the two finalists and the 3rd placed winners will be given medals and certificates.
Sub-trophies for Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Most Valuable Player (MVP) will also be awarded.
