Motorcycle-mini truck accident; two killed

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): Two motor-cycle borne youth succumbed to injuries in a vehicular accident with a Mini Truck belonging to 13th NAP (IR) Battalion near Murise village along Ganeshnagar road under Dhansiripar sub-division today.
The accident occurred at around 8 a.m this morning when the Mini Truck bearing Registration No. NL-11/1570 was proceeding for ration collection to the Battalion Headquarter at Chumukedima from Ganeshnagar where the IR personnel are camped for law and order duty, Additional Superintendent of Police and PRO said in a statement.
Quoting eyewitnesses account, it said the two vehicles were negotiating an S-bend turning when the motorcycle bearing Registration No. NL-01E/1874 (Hero Honda) skidded and fell on the road in front of the Mini truck throwing the riders towards the truck which was coming from the opposite direction.
The motorcycle riders hit the rear wheel of the truck sustaining serious injuries on their heads.
It stated that the occupants of the truck have evacuated the two seriously injured to the hospital in an auto rickshaw for treatment. However, one of the injured died on reaching the hospital, while the other injured too succumbed to injuries in hospital. The deceased have been identified as Lirichum Sangtam (18), son of Makam, and Lordson Sangtam (30), son of Yangtsamong, both of Tsithrongse village under Diphupar Police station.
On learning about the incident, the public of the area became agitated and a minor scuffle ensued between the public and the IR personnel traveling in the truck. What was more appalling was that during the misunderstanding, the IR personnel fired a few round in the air to disperse the crowd and prevent them from damaging the truck. It was also learned that one live wire got snapped after being hit by the bullet as a result of blank firing by IR personnel. The situation was finally brought to normalcy with the arrival of the traffic and Diphupar police personnel.
It stated that local MLA and Advisor of Sericulture and Cooperation, Azheto Zhimomi along with police officers from 13th NAP (IR) Battalion and DEF Dimapur have visited the spot and met the family members and relatives of the deceased victims which helped resolved the matter and coming to an understanding about the unfortunate accident between the parties.
The traffic personnel have examined the spot and also the vehicles involved in the accident were later brought to the traffic control. The driver of the mini truck identified as Bokheto Zhimo has been arrested and necessary legal formalities are under process.
